Bandcamp Recommendations for June 2022

We try to actively follow updates on Bandcamp. And today we’ve collected some interesting releases, which are scheduled for release this June.

“Sleepless in West Norwood” by Mani Festo

Hot on the heels of his LOW BATTERY debut and the announcement of his next EP on Shall Not Fade, Club Glow co-founder Mani Festo readies his latest arsenal of breaks-fuelled dubs for the Lobster White Label series.

Having become one of the go-to names for high quality electro, breakbeat and jungle over the last few years – thanks to releases on Sherelle and NAINA’s Hooversound Recordings, E-Beamz and WNCL Recordings – the UK producer picks up where he left off, re-imagining rave futurism and hardcore sounds through his own distinctive lens.

‘Digital Projection’ is a terrifying cut of grime-laced jungle. Stripped-back, but packing a punch, its large, alien-like wubs will make even the cleanest of ravers need a shower afterwards. ‘Jungle Poison’ reconsiders the typical junglist template with a dose of 2-step influence that makes for a high-energy cut of bouncy UK fusion.

The tempo drops as we venture into 130BPM breaks territory on ‘Roam’ – it’s introspective and melodic aesthetics providing a moment of calm from within the eye of the storm – before ‘Sleepless in West Norwood’ captures that distinctive warehouse rave energy with a sequence of breaks-scattered techno.

“Innervisions” EP by Adam BFD

Paris-based producer and CEO of emotional breakbeat Adam BFD joins the Shall Not Fade family with six emotive tracks, all driven by cinematic ambience.

The past two years have been non-stop for Adam BFD. This release represents his fourth full-length EP of the year, with previous ones finding a home on Lobster Theremin. He’s proven himself as a true storyteller, creating music which through melody reveals at once a level of introspection and an outward-facing expression of emotion that will resonate with almost any listener. Innervisions is no different, constituting what might be his most candid record yet.

Made over the course of lockdown, Adam’s contemplative mood shines through on the record’s A-side. The first two tracks capture breaks at their most meditative potential with a lofi quality and a long, pad-driven interlude (‘I’ve Been Waiting’) and assertive kickdrums that punch beneath a wistful melody (‘Sonar’). ‘What’s Next’ is the EP’s only ambient track which cruises along pulseless via a metallic earworm melody that glistens on an iridescent surface. With reverberating claps, a warm bassline and subaquatic synths, the title track opens a door to hope: a sentiment which will stick around on the record’s B-side, as is demonstrated by ‘M1 & 1’. Although, it is left up to the listener whether this melody speaks more to feelings of ease of melancholy. On the closing track ‘In My Feels’, however, there is nothing left to debate. An immersive soundscape leaves things on a triumphant note.

“About Her” EP  by Hurlee

Mallorca-based DJ and producer Hurlee delivers a new 6-tracks EP coming up on GLBDOM. All the tracks are different but what unites them is that you immediately want to move into the rhythm of solid drums and bright chords. Being inspired by a good old house from the 90-s, this music sounds modern yet warm and groovy.

Using of various drum machines and synthesizers such as classical Korg M1 and an iconic Juno 106 helped to create this kind of atmosphere of a party somewhere in New York in the late 90-s, with all its freedom and irrepressible dance moves.
